Sevenson Joseph

Sevenson Joseph was born in Jacmel on September 15, 1985.

Jacmel is a small town located in the southeast of Haiti.

He began to paint to vent the frustration he felt after the separation of his parents and to finance his studies.

His work was quickly noticed and sells very well. He began with watercolor at the age of 13 years old. In 2004 he enrolled at FOSAJ, an Art scholl located in Jacmel where he mastered his craft. His style, a mixture of mystical and abstract is often compared to that of the two internationally known Haitians artists painters Dieuseul Paul and Exil Levoy (Pointillism).

Sevenson independently developed his style without having any knowledge of the works of his predecessors. His influences in the heart of his journey was rather Jean Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso.

What he says of his art : “I was attracted early on by drawing and painting. As a child, I was often reprimanded by my father because I used to draw instead of doing my homework . At 12, I bought my first canvas And nailed them on wooden frames to paint my environment . Then I sold them to foreigners passing through Jacmel.

His testimony on the earthquake : “I went back to my house. The place i used to call Home! This is where my life is . It is true that myself did not feel so much at home but I stayed because this is where my heart is, this place called home.

Sevenson has created a capsule collection of T -shirts for the well known established  brand Timberland.

Since the earthquake , he leads workshops for disadvantaged children .

His work has been exhibited at FOSAJ, The Montana Hotel in P.A.P, During the festivities of ” la Fête patronale de Jacmel”, at “l’alliance Française de Jacmel” and also in many big cities around the World such Montreal (Canada), Art Basel exhibit 2014 et 2015 (Miami),  (NewYork) United state , Paris ( France ) and England during the  “Haiti Benefit exhibition”
